Teacher Training

Conservation Education Teacher Training Workshops are an important part of this program. Teachers are instructed in the classrooms implementation of the Habitat Ecology Learning Program (HELP) and Pablo Python Looks at Animals Curricula that use the environment to teach a wide variety of subjects including Geography, Maths, Expressive Arts, English and Biology.

Pablo Python provides a broad introduction to basic ecological concepts for lower primary grades. HELP goes into more depth covering areas such as climate, habitat characteristics, adaptations and human impact on natural habitats, and is designed for upper primary and high school students. During the workshops, teachers carry out a variety of hands-on activities such as designing murals, which they can confidently use in the classrooms.

However, teachers in Papua New Guinea needed materials that are more suitable and relevant to PNG context and requested a for RCF to develop a training material. In 2013 RCF developed a Training Material titled Culture & Environment for the Elementary Teachers. Using the material RCF has conducted various trainings in Eastern Highlands, Simbu, Madang and MorobeOther training materials include posters, Climate Change Teacher Resource Book for Manus etc…
