It was a productive trip indeed. Myself and colleagues did an awareness on Climate Change with the Korepa community including the school children and teachers of Korepa Primary School. Basically the awareness is to keep people informed about the changes in the climate – the causes, effects and the actions people can do to adapt to these changes. People tend to realise the importance of this awareness because of the continuous rainfall causing a lot of changes to the environment causing damages to their gardens and homes through landslide and flooding. We had an interesting discussions with the audiences pointing out the changes that will affect their livelihoods such as their gardening practices, etc. This exercise is a consultation to gather information concerning issues of climate change in the community which will be factored into a Community Training Manual later on.
Community dialogue is key to addressing climate change issues.
